This house at the foot of Broad Street is thought to be where Lord Darnley stayed when visiting Mary, Queen of Scots. By the end of the 16th Century it was owned by the Earl of Mar, Governer of Stirling Castle. Many families would have shared the building and in the 17th Century Janet Kilbowie ran part of the house as a tavern and meeting place.
