SS Sir Walter Scott

SS Sir Walter Scott is a passenger service on the sheltered waters of Loch Katrine. A link with a gentler era, she is the last screw-driven steamship in service on Scotland's inland waters. More than a symbol, the vessel is a part of the nation's heritage and a lasting tribute to the skills of her builders.

The Trossachs Pier, lies in the shadow of the conical shape of the hill of Ben A'an is where your cruise begins, sailing 8 miles to Stronachlachar on the loch's Southwestern shore. The ship's schedule also includes shorter one hour sailing in the afternoons. Its passage takes the SS Sir Walter Scott close to historic sites such as Ellen's Isle, Royal Cottage, Silver Strand, Factor's Island and Portnellan, one of the burial places of the Clan MacGregor - Rob Roy' birthplace.

Glengyle House sits near the head of the loch. If you're feeling energetic, you can take advantage of a one-way trip to Stronachlachar and cycle safely back on the virtually traffic free private road that skirts the loch's Northern edge. If your feeling energetic hire a bike from the pier and take a single ticket across the loch and cycle all the way back on the private road running the loch's northen edge.
